Notes

Arthur Groves Moore, Sr., 77, of Raleigh, NC, died January 16, 2020 from congestive heart failure accompanied by continuous pain from long-term back injuries.

He was born December 10, 1942 in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Robert Cannon Moore and Florence Groves, who predeceased him. He was the beloved husband of Theresa “Terry” Netherwood, and the much loved father of Allison Moore, Arthur Groves Moore Jr. (Jennifer R. Romney), Andrew Cannon Moore (Shantel R. Fisher), Adam Joseph Moore (Katherine Jackson), Amy Elizabeth Moore, Alexander Thomas Moore (Audrey Kay McCall). and the beloved grandpa of Ethan Vincent Moore, Milo Preston Moore; Nathan Andrew Moore, Luke Sterling Moore, Jacob Lincoln Moore, William Cannon Moore; Adelaide McKay Moore, Levi Joseph Moore, Clifford Lee Moore and Claire Isabel Moore. He is also survived by his sister Mary Jennings (Robin), Louisville, KY and Thomas Moore (Dana), Northboro, MA.

Arthur was a true Renaissance man with a vast array of interests. He was an avid chess player, a Gold Life Master in bridge, and a brown belt in judo. He was a storyteller and poet, who knew a lot about many things. There was not much he wasn’t interested in, including reading, politics, economics, music, mathematics, running marathons, skiing, rock climbing, scouting, swimming, any sport his children participated in and Duke basketball. He never knew a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. Arthur earned a BS in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Mathematics from NC State University. He retired from IBM after 30 years.

Before he died, he told his wife that he had fought the good fight, and indeed he had.

A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Arthur’s life on January 20, 2020, 1 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5060 Six Forks Rd., Raleigh, NC. Family members will be receiving friends from 12 - 12:45pm at the church.
