Notes

Mrs. Maureen Anne Leney, 73, of Durham, NC peacefully passed away on Friday, November 8th, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Ignatius and Anne (Hentigian) Whelan. Maureen was born on July 30th, 1946 in Cambridge, MA and grew up in Somerville, MA and Tewksbury, MA.

Maureen married the love of her life, David Leney, on October 1st, 1967, and they were happily married for 52 years. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage and were blessed with three daughters. Family and friends meant everything to Maureen, and she will always be fondly remembered for her love, generosity, and kindness. She and Dave loved to travel and were grateful to have visited so many amazing places together, especially traveling with family and friends.

Maureen will forever be cherished in the lives of her daughters: Michelle (Matthew) Bowley, Melissa Leney, and Nicolle Leney; her two grandsons: Connor (Kayla) Bowley and Colin (Chelsey) Bowley; as well as a host of devoted extended family and friends. She is also survived by her brother, Michael (Mary Lou, decd.) Whelan.

Visitation will be held at the Renaissance Funeral Home on 7615 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh on Monday, November 11th from 3pm to 7pm. The funeral service will be at St. Francis of Assisi on 11401 Leesville Rd, on Tuesday, November 12th at 3:30pm, with a reception following the service.

Maureen’s favorite color was pink (all shades!), and the family would love for anyone interested to join them in wearing pink to the visitation/service to celebrate her memory.

Maureen and I became friends while working at the VA Hospital in Bedford, MA. We ate lunch together along with another friend, Jeannie and there was always much to discuss!
At this very sad and difficult time, I would like to extend to David and the family, my sincere condolences.

Our deepest condolences to Dave and his family. We were indeed blessed by Maureen’s sweet spirit during the short time they lived in Ivy Hall.

May God’s comforting arms embrace you, filling you with His wisdom and peace as each of you adjust to the missing link in your family circle.

In Christ,.

Dear Dave and family,
I’m so sorry to hear of Maureen’s passing and keeping all of you close in prayer. Both of you were such great neighbors to my parents but even better friends! Your kindness and helpfulness will always be remembered and appreciated beyond!! I have no doubt my parents and Maureen have found one another and are back visiting again. Keeping you close in thought and prayer as you journey through this time.
