Notes

Lawrence “Larry” William Jinks died peacefully on April 26, 2019, in Raleigh, NC, at the age of 69.

Born on April 13, 1950, in Newark, NJ, to William and Georgiana Jinks, Larry grew up in Belleville, NJ. He attended Belleville High School followed by Rutgers University, where he earned a degree in biology and competed in track and field as a sprinter and long jumper. He later received a Masters degree from Montclair State University. Upon graduation, Larry became a biology teacher at Nutley High School, where he taught for 34 years and also coached track, cross country, and football. Upon retirement, he went on to teach biology for three more years at Mount St. Dominic Academy in Caldwell, NJ. After retiring, Larry and Joanne relocated to Wake Forest, NC, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Larry was an accomplished breeder of tropical fish. He was an active member of the North Jersey Aquarium Society and the Raleigh Aquarium Society, as well as numerous other organizations along the east coast. He loved to share his passion for biology and tropical fish through speaking engagements and auctions across the country. His family and friends remember him as a loving, witty, compassionate, and fiercely loyal man.

Larry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joanne Nosti Jinks of Wake Forest, NC; his daughter, Jennifer Fiduccia (and her husband, Patrick) of Raleigh, NC; his son, Christopher Jinks (and his wife, Marisa) of Lake Wylie, SC; his grandchildren, James, Isabella, Samantha, and Alexander Fiduccia, and Lily and Juliet Jinks; his sister, Karen Bromberg (Bill) of Sayreville, NJ; father-in-law, John Nosti of Nutley, NJ and brother-in-law, Louis Nosti (Cindy) of Montville, NJ and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Community on Leesville Road in Raleigh. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Larry’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Transitions Life Care at 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 (transitionslifecare.org) or the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation at 3610 W. Market Street, Suite, 110, Akron, OH 44333 (cjdfoundation.org).

I was a one of Larry's mischievous/misfit track and field runners in high school. We were responsible for many of his heartburn moments, and probably gave him his early gray hair. Looking back it amazed me and a lot of other people, how he was able to get a rag-tag group of misfits that could actually be groomed into track and field state champions. However, I remember a time when we were goofing off at practice and pissed Larry off. He kept us after practice and we were running 330's until we puked and then he ran us again, puked and again and again and again. Get this, all with the blessing of all our parents!
Don't let me get started on the night before he got married at his bachelor party we threw for him. I thought JoAnn was going to kill us. Love you.

Dear Mrs Jinks, Jennifer, Christopher and all the family, so saddened to hear of the family news. A great champion of many is now watching down on us but I will never forget the positive energy, inspiration and faith that your husband, dad and my “Mr Jinks” instilled upon us. From kids track, to HS track, to Biology, to the father of a good childhood friend. He will be missed. Love to you all. -Katie (Bonchonsky) Kelly

Dear Joanne, Jen, Chris,
“Mr Jinks” was an abiding presence in our house from 1983 to 1997. His name was a household word....”Mr Jinks” made us do repeat 100s today. I hate that whistle “Mr Jinks” blows. “ Mr Jinks” says I have to double this meet. “Mr Jinks” is so funny. “ Mr Jinks” said I did good today.
He was a positive influence, a wonderful role model. “Mr Jinks” will always be part of our children’s high school memories.
Thinking of you, Joanne and remembering so many conversations.
We pray that you and your family will all find peace, knowing that Larry lives on in the memories of all the young people he coached and mentored.
God Bless
The Frikerts

Larry was an amazing guy with so much knowledge and passion for education and fish. He was funny and kind and he will be so sorely missed by so many of us. I learned of his passing on the way to take my family to the State aquarium. We made a small donation in his honor and said some words at the marshes where we had hunted killifish together.

My thoughts are with the Jinks family at this sad time. It is never easy losing a loved one. May memories of the good times you shared together bring you comfort at this time of sorrow.
Shared many good times with Larry going on road trips to fish clubs, fish auctions, shop hops, and fish shows. He will be missed.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Larry Jinks. For over 10 years, we were friends and colleagues sharing a passion in a hobby we both loved. He was a mentor and expert to many people, and together we planned, worked, and celebrated numerous activities to educate, encourage, and enlighten others with that interest. He will be missed.
