Notes

Robert Noyles Wiseman, 80, husband of Millie Garland Wiseman, went to his heavenly home on Monday, August 13, 2018.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Robert was a native of Avery County. He was the son of the late Jesse Wiseman and the late Sadie Aldridge Wiseman.

He was a 1957 graduate of Crossnore High School and served in the United States Army. His career was in the mining industry and worked for 45 years at Feldspar Corporation / Zemex in Spruce Pine.
Robert enjoyed playing poker with friends and in local charity events. Robert was commonly known as “Big Opossum”. His favorite saying, “Big Opossums travel late!” He was a storyteller, and his laughter and spirit inspired so many people. Robert was a loving and caring man. He would carry a buckeye in his pocket for good luck, and he always had a spare to share with friends.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his daughter Robin Wiseman Evans, Son-in-law John C. Evans and three grandsons, Andrew Evans, Austin Evans, and Johnny Evans of Cary, NC. Sisters Beaula Carpenter, Betty Thomas (Phil), Emma Boone (Paul). He was preceded in death by his siblings, Joe Wiseman, Beuna (Susie) Wiseman, Isabelle Ballew, Jesse Wiseman, Mack Wiseman, Ralph Wiseman, and Evelyn Phillips.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 2:00pm at Walnut Grove Church, Newland, NC. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Robert would be up early on the morning at Emerald Isle and make a run to the store for us in his big Ford Truck. He has a way of ease in being with people. We will remember you. With special love and prayers for your wife Millie and daughter Robin.
Love Barbara (Oma)

Worked in the lab with Robert for many years. He always had a story or joke to tell, or a prank to pull. Also a lot of knowledge about mining and flotation. He will be missed!

Robert was special to our family growing up. I can see him walking to our house to help David milk.( they had to do the milking before they could go out on the town!).
