Notes

Raleigh, NC
Johnny Muñoz, 76, passed away Friday, August 10, 2018, after a brief illness, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. He was surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.

Johnny was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, on July 31, 1942, and lived in Lorain, Ohio prior to his move to Raleigh, NC in 2013.

He dedicated 39 years, working at St Joseph’s Hospital in Lorain, Ohio where he created lifelong friends. He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain, Ohio, a CYO member, Catechist, part of the Cursíllo and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Johnny spent many years as a caretaker and companion to members of the church that were sick and in need. He was devoted to the Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Anyone who met him knew of his love for his family, friends, music, American Bandstand, Kool Kat Oldies and dancing with his wife, Hilda, the Queen of the Hop. His entire world was his family, and he loved them all unconditionally. He judged no one, and prayed for everyone. He doted over his children, grandchildren and his beautiful wife. Johnny loved to be on-the-go visiting family, bringing fresh bread and cheese at all his stops. He loved running into those who knew him to give them a hug. He enjoyed his routine of going to the gym for his 5 minute workout and 30 minutes of socializing and stopping along the way to play the lottery.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 year, Hilda (nee Vicéns) Muñoz; siblings Natívídád “Natty” Rodríguez, Felíciáno “Felo” Muñoz, Victor Muñoz, Leandra “Chiry” Rodríguez, Rosa “Rosie” Muñoz, Maria Piggott and Carmen Ozbolt ; childre,n Bernadette (Tony) Atwater, Yvette (Gary) Caiola, Martin (Beth) Muñoz, Daniel (Michelle) Alícéa-Muñoz. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gervásio “Julio” Muñoz and Aurélia Muñoz.

A Mass in his honor will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 11401 Leesville Rd, Raleigh, NC 27613 on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 11:00am-12:00pm, with a reception immediately following. Johnny and I go way back to the St Joseph Hospital days when he trained me to be a Patient Transporter. You loved the guy the very moment you met him with his infectious smile and the love and compassion he had for people and his job. We worked together over the years and when we didnt we stayed in touch mostly through music and memories. Frankie Vallis "My Eyes Adored You' was a song we would sing to each other because he knew I was a singer,he had asked if I knew the song? I said really Johnny,Im a walking Rock and Roll trivia machine! I would call Kool Kats and ask Wally to play it for him. One of the best memories of him was when I worked temporarily for Seniors Helping Seniors and on more than one occasion i was sent to a house to be with a patient and I knock on the door and who would either answer the door or I would hear his voice in the house? Yep,Heres Johnny! Then we would talk our ears off about the past and especially St Joes.RIP my dear friend, was glad to have the privelage to meet you and get to know you.Noone that I know has ever loved God,Family, Friends, and Life more! My Eyes Will Always Adore You!! Darrell Minnich

Yvette I will always remember your Dads smile. It came naturally to him. You could see within a minute of meeting him that he had a heart of gold. The Grieco family sends warm condolences to you and Gary, Danielle, and Dominic. And to your siblings and their families.

Hugs & sympathy to the family. I have known Johnny for many, many years having worked at St. Joseph Hospital. A wonderful man & dear friend. Saw him last at his 50th wedding anniversary party. He sent beautiful flowers last year at our SJH reunion. He is missed & I am so sad. I hope he meets Dick Clark in Heaven.:heart::heart:
