Notes

With his children by his side and his wife holding his hand, Alfred Edward Kelly, 69, passed away on April 20, 2018, in Raleigh, N.C.

While born in Harlan County, the heart of Kentucky’s coal-mine country, Al Kelly considered himself a son of Ypsilanti, MI. It was in his beloved “Ypsi” that Al excelled on the baseball and football fields, put himself through college, started his career in book printing sales, took up golf and met Sylvia, his wife of 46 years. Together they started a family and led a life of many happy chapters, taking them to California, Illinois and North Carolina.

He will be remembered for his warmth and kindness, his devotion to his family, his blue eyes, his love of sports and a good round of golf (he was a member of North Ridge Country Club for 20 years), his humor, and his great head of hair. He left our hearts full and showed us how the actions of a good man, husband and father can make us better people. Though we feel his loss, he will continue to be an inspiration.

Al leaves behind great memories and a lasting legacy with his wife, Sylvia; son, Steve (Amanda); daughter, Kristin (Michael); granddaughter, Norah; sisters, Angie & Pam; brother, Pat; extended family; and more friends than he ever realized. He was preceded in death by his parents, Trudy & Palmer Kelly; and his brother, Mark.

A celebration of his life with his family and his friends will take place at North Ridge Country Club on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ypsi-Arbor American Little League in his name (www.ypsiarborll.org). Please share stories and condolences at www.rfhr.com; details about the service will be shared there at a later date.

What a great guy- never had a mean thing to say about anyone. Never saw a golf shot he didn't like. He adored his wife and children.
I sure miss play golf with him
