Notes

Evan Taylor Stiff, 32, of Raleigh, passed away after a fierce battle with addiction on Sunday, July 16th, 2017. Evan was the most wonderful person. He was a funny, kind, adventurous, artistically talented, caring and free spirited person who always saw the best in everyone he met. The enemy won the battle of his body but it did not have victory over his soul.

Evan was born April 18th, 1985, in Pittsburgh, PA and was a resident of Raleigh, NC since 1997. He worked in construction, plumbing and the restaurant business during his years in Raleigh.
He is survived and deeply loved by his parents, Mica Baker Mitchell and Dwight Dean Stiff, his sister, Marissa Lynn Marley and husband, his maternal grandmother, Marymae Racine Baker, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be deeply missed by many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by grandparents, Margaret and Robert H. Stiff and Charles E. Baker.
The family will receive guests for the viewing on Saturday, July 22nd from 2-5 pm. On Sunday, July 23rd, an additional viewing will be held from 12-1 pm immediately followed by the funeral service to be held at 1pm. The viewing and the funeral service will take place at the Renaissance Funeral Home Chapel at 7615 Six Forks Rd. Raleigh, NC, 27615.

Please feel free to contribute a photo or a memory you shared with Evan on his tribute page at the following ink: http://www.rfhr.com/obituaries/Evan-Stiff/
Contributions in memory of Evan may be made to Healing Transitions of Wake County (http://healing-transitions.org/get-involved/donations/) and or the Oxford House of Wake County (http://www.oxfordhouse.org/userfiles/file/donations.php ).

Arrangements under the direction of Renaissance Funeral Home, Raleigh, North Carolina.

I still think about my friend Evan all the time. I miss his ever-positive attitude, sense of humor, ability to tell a story and the fact that he would tell those stories to anyone, even if they were wildly inappropriate for the setting. Mica, I wanted to ask specifically if Evan has a grave or otherwise a physical place where we can go to pay respects or leave flowers. That is something I would really like to do, realizing that a year has already passed. My thoughts are still with the family, knowing that one never heals from this kind of tragedy.

I remember that little tow-headed toddler with the raspy voice & boy did he ever entertain us with the things he would say. So precocious he was. Like the time he asked a very large woman if she was hiding a baby in her dress. God Bless you Evan. You know we serve a God who loves us so much that he wants us as close to him as possible. All I can think of is that Our Lord wanted you so badly that he needed you right next to him. Perhaps he knew that he had a place for you much sooner than your young life had planned. Your mother loves you & your sister more than anything else in the universe. God gave you the BEST earthly mother a young boy could ask for. You blessed her life. Now you fly with the Angels, Dear Evan.

Praying for you all knowing you are crushed and weeping. We weep with you. God is near. He is close to the brokenhearted. Lean into Him. A beautiful life in Evan's smile and his love lives on through you. Kathy Maestas
