Notes

Jason Jerry Drahzal, age 36, passed away unexpectedly on May 18, 2016.

Jason was born in the Bronx, NY to John and Marge Drahzal.

He graduated from BKW in 1998. He played soccer for BKW and his favorite position was goalie. Jason also attended ITT Tech specializing in software engineering; he was a lovable computer geek! He had a unique ability to translate computer language to plain English.

Jason worked for New York Oncology Hematology and Cancer Care NC, USOH and ended his career at Duke Medicine / Duke Raleigh Hospital program.

He made it his mission and priority to give his most compassionate care to anyone who walked through the cancer center treatment process. Jason really got to know and care for patients, doctors and his co-workers. He will be remembered by his welcoming words of; “Hi my friend” and “We will get it done”. He always made himself available to all who needed his computer expertise.

The two loves of his life were “his girls”, his nieces, McKenna and Sarah. Jason’s joy was his weekends with “his girls” and with his brother Scott and sister-in-law Danielle in Charlotte.

Jason’s hugs and smiles will be missed by all, especially at game night and pool time, neither of which will be the same.

Jason is survived by his mother Marge Duffy and his father John Drahzal (Natalie), brother Scott(Danielle), nieces McKenna and Sarah, step brother Matt Drahzal (Melissa), John Noel Drahzal (Bridget). Aunts, Betsy Buchardt and Eileen Duffy, Uncle Matthew Duffy, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held on Saturday May 28, 2016 at 2:00 pm. at Altamont Reformed Church, 129 Lincoln Avenue, Altamont, New York 12009.

In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made in Jason’s name to Hospitality House of Charlotte 1400 Scott Ave. Charlotte, NC 28203

Jason was one of a kind. The first to help out or offer a kind word and always available to help with an IT question, no matter how crazy it may have sounded. His family meant everything and while he worked in NY, he often spoke of the girls and would share the fun times he had with them at the beach. God bless Jason and his family. My sincere condolences. Sending thoughts and prayers to the Drahzal family, Jason you were always there for everyone no matter how much we annoyed you with dumb IT questions. you always helped with a smile on your face, even though you walked away shaking your head. You weren't just the IT guy you were a friend to everyone. I know you will be watching over your family and friends, especially those girls whom you adored so much.

Enjoy the white sand and blue water, just like in the pictures you would always tease me with.

RIP Buddy, CHEERS!

You didn't become my brother under the best of circumstances, but I am so proud that you did. As the memories come flooding in, all I can picture is your smile. I am going to miss that so much. Remember how we used to drive around in your car listening to music? We couldn't even talk because the music was so loud. Well, here are some lyrics from the song you always used to play for me... I guess this was "our song."

"...but we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you're gone.
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong.
And friends are friends forever,
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say 'never,'
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though its hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long
To live as friends."

Love you so much!
"Debbie Sue" (you were the only one that could ever get away with calling me that).

My deepest condolences to the entire Drahzal family, especially the girls, whom he loves and adores beyond words. There was nothing he looked forward to more than family vacations and weekend trips to Charlotte. Jason was a great friend to everyone and I will terribly miss our conversations and communications - I'm still waiting for him to call or text me. He went out of his way to assist or help, anyone with anything. His opinions, advice, and friendship have had a profound impact on my life. Rest in peace my friend, and I'm sure you've already found your beach or poolside lounge chair.

I always knew if I had a question, a problem, or a perplexing situation, there was Jason, my go to guy. He was always there. It made no difference if is was after hours, on a weekend, or if I just needed to talk. I knew, when I dialed that number he would be there. He would understand like no one else in the business. I would often say, "this might be a dumb question, but consider the source". As I wipe away the tears and mourn this loss, my heart breaks for his family. Knowing the impact Jason had on so many of his colleagues, I can only imagine how this loss has left such a gapping hole in so many lives. We love you Jason and will miss you always.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Drahzal Family. It was a pleasure to work with Jason. I have worked with him closely since he became a part of the Duke family and had the New York connection with him. He cared deeply about all the staff he supported at all three sites, and wanted nothing more then to provide the best service for the staff and patients. I will miss him dearly and I'm so glad I was able to be a part of his life.

There are no words to describe how much Jason meant to so many people. He was such a great colleague and friend. In his time at Duke we became a great team. I’ll always remember Jason for how dedicated he was to the staff. Jason would always bring up his nieces and how excited he was to spend time with them. You made such a big impact on my life, you and your smile will never be forgotten.

Jason has been a leader in technology, a colleague while working in US Oncology and a friend to myself and IT department. His qualities extended beyond his tremendous computer skills, he had the ability of listening to problems presented and very quietly responding with practical solutions. The time of day did not matter, Jason always answered his phone. I look around my office and see all the network/software projects we have worked on over 15 years. His memory will live on within my department.
