Notes

Joseph B. Kurzweil, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died Tuesday morning, September 29, 2015, at 74 years old.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, October 6 at the Catholic Community of St. Francis of Assisi in Raleigh. Friends and family are encouraged to join a gathering with Joe’s family at noon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1pm.

A native of New York, Joe grew up among a family of dairy farmers. Joe graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology before beginning a rewarding career that took him around the globe with IBM’s circuit development, personal computer, instruments and manufacturing operations.
He was an avid craftsman and woodworker, had a lifelong eye for photography, and immersed himself in Kurzweil family genealogy. Joe was honored to serve on the finance team at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Raleigh and, as for several years, as Business Manager for Immaculate Conception Parish in Durham. Joe also served for 15 years as a member of the Diocesan Finance Council of the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh.

Joe is survived by Frances his loving wife of 51 years, sister Anna of Binghamton, NY, son Joe (Caroline) of Rochester, NY, son Tim (Laurie) of Fort Mill, SC, and daughter Julie (Phil) of Raleigh, six grandchildren, a niece, nephew and large extended family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joe’s name to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607

It is truly a sad event for me. We were neighbors and friends from young kids and spent many happy times together and I have many fond memories of Joe both as a youngster and an adult. Joe was a unique person and I am sure a wonderful husband and father. I remember well his kindness, willingness to share and always there to help when someone less fortunate needed a hand. I shall miss Joe dearly as he was a good friend.
I extend our deepest sympathies to all the members of his family. We will keep you in our prayers.

As a 1959 graduate of DVCS and a fellow IBM retiree, I am sorry to hear of Joe's passing. After many years he contacted me prior to the 50th high school reunion as he worked to assemble as many alumni as possible. Unfortunately he could not attend that reunion himself and we missed him there. Please accept my condolences. William "Bob" Knecht, Kingston, NY
