Notes

On Sunday, July 12, 2015, at 10:15 p.m., Major Laddonia C. Davis was Promoted to Glory!

At the tender age of 18, Laddonia felt the call to become a Salvation Army officer. While attending The Salvation Army Training College in Atlanta, Georgia, she met and fell in love with another cadet, Harold L. Davis. After they were commissioned as lieutenants, Laddonia was stationed at the Training College as secretary to the Colonel (Dean) of the college, and Harold was stationed in Richmond, Virginia. They married a year later and served the Lord together with The Salvation Army for 25 years before retiring. But feeling the need to serve the Lord for little while longer, they joined the North Raleigh Church of the Nazarene in October 1994. Laddonia continued attending the Church of the Nazarene until returning to The Salvation Army for the last approximately 10 years of her time before Going Home.

Laddonia and Harold were married for 55 years, until Harold was Promoted to Glory/Called Home in August 2001. Although Laddonia was then on her own to love and serve the Lord, she did it with great joy for the rest of her life. The afternoon of that wonderful day, Laddonia was insistent on having ice cream; so she was taken to McDonald’s to get a snack size Oreo McFlurry, and enjoyed every bite - even drinking the melted part in the bottom to savor every bit of ice cream she could.

Laddonia is survived by: three daughters - Carol L. Klein, Diane D. Robinette, Pamela S. Davis; and one son - Harold L. Davis, Jr. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

The family requests that instead of flowers, please send a donation to The Salvation Army.

Dear Carol, Diane, Pam, and Harold (Buddy),
My prayers are with you during this time - Aunt Donnie was one of the best for encouragement, guidance, support, but most of all for sharing God's word. All my life I knew her and Uncle Harold to always support the church and help others to learn and accept God's love and spending a summer during my early teenage years helped me to appreciate and understand the Bible today.
You had wonderful parents and I was blessed too because she was my Aunt Donnie.

Love Polly

Carol, Harold, and Family,

We are thinking of you each moment as you go throughout this day. We are praying with you, saddened for you, and rejoicing over the fact that your mom is now truly at home. Please let us know if there is anything we can do.

Rejoicing in Hope,

Edwin Franks & The Entire Lincoln Ave Baptist Church

I started a friendship with Laddonia and Harold when they started coming to North Raleigh Church of the Nazarene, and every time Mr. Davis saw me, he would say, "West Virginia!" because he knew I was from there. A while later, Laddonia was assigned to be my mentor in the Heart 2 Heart program through the women's ministry at NRCN. She would send beautiful cards with encouragements, Scriptures and advice from time to time. She talked a lot about things she and Harold had done for the Lord together. I know Laddonia missed him terribly after he died, and I know she is happy to be reunited with him now. The last time I saw Laddonia was when she was at Capital Towers, and I worked in the building next door. I saw her sitting outside in the gazebo, so I went to say hello. We had a lovely conversation. She didn't know who I was at first, but she started to recognize me when we started talking about her sweet husband and daughter and son and her granddaughter that was on the NC IMPACT Team when we were leaders. She just glowed with joy that day as she talked about her family and told me again of how she and Harold used to do ministry together. That's how I am going to remember her.

Love and prayers to the family!
